Morocco: June 2004

Fes: Considered by many to be the most spiritual towns of Morocco, founded by a sultan in 789,
the oldest of Morocco's imperial cities. We enjoyed this town - smaller and more manageable
medina (the city center) and a more comfortable feeling than Marrakech.

One of many fountains in the medina.

A former family home turned into a restaurant.

As costs of maintaining homes and as young couples go out to live on their own, the many of the magnificent homes in the medina have become tourist accommodations.

One of many of the King's palaces.

The only way to get goods through the narrow streets of the medina. One must be alert at all times - commerce does not wait for tourist

A sacred site for Senagalese Muslim pilgramages.

The tannery

The pottery coop - everything still made by hand.

Even the ruins are beautiful - an old mansion that the family could not afford to maintain.

Not an unusual street.

The narrowest street - a short-cut

The only graffitti we saw -

Really glad to be going home!!
